SAIH, in cooperation with ISU, StL and NSU, is organizing an international student conference in Oslo on the 13th and 14th of September 2008. Invitations have been sent to approximately 20 student representatives from student organisations in countries in Africa and Latin America. The theme of the conference will be student organisations’ relations with society at large and what one can do to make an influence, and also how the student organisations can be used a democratic tools to channel students’ points of view. We aim to facilitate thematic dialogues between representatives from student organisations in Norway and in the South. For this reason we also wish to invite students in Norway who have an interest in organisations, political lobbying or democracy to participate in the conference. We do believe that students and student representatives in Norway and in the South can learn from each other’s experiences.
Throughout the two conference days there will be many workshops and plenty of time to discuss in groups, in addition to the plenary sessions. The main language of the conference will be English with translations to and from Spanish for.
The program for the two conference days will be finalized at a later stage. Within the current frame, “Student Organisations in the Democracy, and Democracy in the Student Organisations”, we can promise topics such as lobbying and public relations, discussions on involvement, gender equity and female representation and presentations from student movements in different parts of the world.
The conference will be held at Oslo University College in Pilestredet 46 in Oslo. There is no fee to participate. We encourage all participants to arrange their own accommodation privately. If this is difficult we can recommend Cochs Hotel which is reasonable and close to the University College.
The deadline for registration for the conference is August 8th. Send an email to sigrun.espe@saih.no. If you have any questions please contact us on the same address or call: 21 06 34 76
