Want to work with student’s rights?

Are you interested in an exchange year where you work student activists in both South Africa and Zambia? The Students and Academics International Assistance Fund (SAIH) is now recruiting two new exchange participants. Through the exchange you will have the opportunity to work with SAIH’s partner organizations ZANEC in Zambia and Equal Education in South Africa. The overall thematic focus of the exchange will be equitable higher education and academic freedom.

Application deadline: 18th of June 2018. Interviews will be carried out in week 25 in Oslo

Through this youth exchange you will have the role as a full-time volunteer working with Equal Education. The exchange will start with a 3 weeks introduction course in Oslo in August, then you will travel to Lusaka, Zambia in the autumn, and then to Cape Town, South Africa from January – June 2019. When you return to Norway you will spend 8 weeks working part-time with knowledge-sharing and communication work. You will travel in a team together with one other participant from Norway for the whole exchange period. SAIH is looking for a person between the age of 22– 35 with interest in the field of higher education and academic freedom.

The participants will be expected to have the following experience:

from working in the development sector/in youth organizationsresearch, writing and editing experiencepolicy analysiswriting reportsfacilitate workshops and meetingscampaign and advocacy workcommunication and presentation skills

Education: Completed or initiated bachelor degree within a relevant area.

Personal qualities:

strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with people from different cultures and contextsflexible and open to changecuriouslikes to work in a teamability to take on new challenges and to adapt to a new environment

SAIH will cover costs related to the preparation course and home coming seminar. SAIH will also cover one return ticket to South Africa, accommodation costs whilst in South Africa, and a limited allowance in South Africa. Insurance will be covered. Allowance and travel costs connected to the 8 weeks information work in Norway

OsloMet styrker studentsolidariteten!

Studentdemokratiet ved OsloMet har vedtatt å øke SAIH-tierne fra 40 til 60 kroner. Vedtaket gjør OsloMet til det første universitetet i Norge som gir studentene mulighet til å bidra med 60 kroner over semesteravgiften – et tydelig signal om at solidaritet fortsatt står sterkt blant norske studenter.

SAIH uttrykker solidaritet med studentene i Zambia

SAIH uttrykker solidaritet med Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) og de 74 studentene ved Kapasa Makasa University som ble arrestert etter en fredelig demonstrasjon mot nye regler for klassifisering av grader. Arrestasjonene utgjør et alvorlig angrep på studenters rett til å protestere og på akademisk frihet.
