Are you a student, academic, or activist passionate about decolonization? Join SAIH’s new working group and help shape how we approach this important issue—both within the organization and together with our partners.

SAIHs annual meeting 2025 adopted a new 5-year strategy with a clear decolonial foundation. Decolonization is central to our programmatic work with partners, our political priorities as well as SAIHs action program 2025-2026.

We are looking for knowledgeable and engaged academics, students and activists to join our new working group on decolonization.

The group will:

  • contribute to developing a common understanding on decolonization in SAIH
  • explore how we communicate and practice decolonization internally
  • facilitate spaces for dialogue and contribute to knowledge building in the organization

The work will not happen in isolation of SAIHs ongoing efforts on decolonization, meaning input from SAIH`s secretariate, partners and other relevant actors, as well as our foundational documents is crucial. Based on this, the working group will set internal goals for its first year.

The working group will consist of up to 6-7 members, where 3 of the spots are reserved for SAIHs secretariate, Board and Executive Committee. You can expect 1-2 meetings per month, and perhaps some work between meetings. We are opening up to digital participation, so people from outside the Oslo area are encouraged to apply as we want a multitude of insights and people of different backgrounds and experiences.

Who are you?

  • Student, academic or activist with knowledge and/or experience working with decolonization. This might be, but not limited to, participation in social-, student-, feminist- and anti-racist movements, within academia, the cooperation sector, Indigenous knowledge production, work with challenging narratives etc.
  • You enjoy working with others and taking initiative.
  • You have knowledge of SAIH and SAIHs work on the topic from before, for example you were part of developing SAIHs decolonization toolkit from 2020.

Practical info

The working group will start its work in November and continue until Summer 2026, with SAIHs Winter Gathering, Annual Meeting and board meetings as potential key milestones. The working group will also continually throughout the period bring back knowledge and create spaces for dialogue with the secretariate, to ensure the work is anchored well within the organization.

How to apply

Send a short motivation letter (max 250 words) introducing yourself, your experience, and why you want to join the working group.

Send your application to:
Vice President of SAIH, Nicole Becerra Vivanco
Email: nicole.becerra@saih.no

Deadline: November 7
