Western Sahara - the last colony of Africa

On Thursday September 3rd SAIH-Ås invites you to a seminar about Western Sahara; It's history, human rights situation and international law perspectives. Come to Auditorium U130 at 5 pm to learn more about this important, but little known conflict.
Onsdag 02. september 2009

Since 1975, three quarters of the territory of Western Sahara has been occupied by Morocco.

A majority of the population is still living in refugee camps in Algeria. Those who remained in their homeland are subjected to serious harassment from the Moroccan occupiers. For more than 40 years the Sahrawis have been waiting for the fulfilment of their legitimate right to self-determination.

Hans Morten Haugen, founder of The Western Sahara support committee in Norway, will give an introduction to the conflict in relations to international law, while Sigrun Espe, president of SAIH and leader of the student peace price committee 2009, will talk about the human rights situation for Sahrawi people and especially students.
